Join the fun! Volunteer!

Bikerowave runs on 100% pure volunteer power. Our volunteers are our most valuable asset, and we want you to join us!

Volunteer picnic at CicLAvia

We are students, workers in the entertainment industry, teachers, and everything in between. Our youngest volunteer is 13 years old, and, well, I won’t give away the age of our oldest. Some are professionally trained bike mechanics while others walked in not knowing a bottom bracket from a headtube. What unites our volunteers is a love for bicycling, and a desire to help our customers become confident, self-sufficient cyclists on the streets of Los Angeles.
You don’t need previous bike repair experience, although it’s awesome if you have it. Our current mechanics are happy to have you shadow them until you are confident enough to assist customers on your own. We also have weekly workshops for volunteers that cover how to use various tools, and how to do common repairs. All you need is enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a few hours per week to spend at Bikerowave.

We offer free bike check-ups and bike valet at Mar Vista Farmers' Market every Sunday.

Volunteer work at Bikerowave comes in a variety of flavors, from wrenching to outreach to administrative work. What are you interested in? If you primarily want to wrench, a regular shift on a week night (Monday through Thursday) or at the weekend is the way to go. All shifts need volunteers to greet customers, work the retail side of things, and help keep the shop organized. If you are more interested in spreading the word about Bikerowave with light wrenching on the side, then consider getting involved in our outreach program, which includes a regular booth at the Mar Vista Farmers’ Market, and offering bike maintenance workshops around the Westside.
If you volunteer 12 hours or more each month then you will become a full member, entitling you to have a say in the way Bikerowave is run by voting at our monthly members’ meetings. Additional membership benefits include free stand time, access to Members’ Only Night (this is why we’re closed on Fridays), discounts on new and used parts, and invitations to our volunteer socials, which have recently included group rides, picnics, and bbqs.
Volunteer BBQ (BikeBQ?) prep. That is definitely not a spoke-kebob.

Interested? Great! Next you need to fill out the volunteer application form, deliver it to us at Bikerowave, and show up for your first shift! We recommend attending different shifts initially (if your schedule allows), since each shift has its own distinct personality. We encourage our volunteers to eventually commit to a regular shift so that we have reliable staffing levels, however, we appreciate that schedules and availability change, and we appreciate your donation of time, no matter how much that might be.
We hope to see you at your first Bikerowave shift soon!
