Do you ride a bike? Do you ever notice your gears aren’t shifting as smoothly as you’d like, the brakes aren’t stopping you very effectively, or things just aren’t running very smoothly? If so, this class is for you. Why pay a shop $40 to tune up your bike when you can learn to do basic maintenance yourself?

This workshop will be held Saturday, May 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Bikerowave.

Our volunteer mechanic Katie will lead you through:
-different types of bike brakes and how each works
-how to adjust your brake pads and cables for optimal stopping power
-how to know when to replace your brake pads, and how to replace them
-how to clean and lube your chain and how to check when it’s time to replace it
-how shifting works and how to adjust shifter cables and derailleurs

By the end of the workshop you will be able to solve these common issues on your own!

This class is designed for those with little or no knowledge of bicycle mechanics and we aim to cultivate a very non-intimidating, beginner-friendly environment! You are welcome to bring your own bike to work on during the workshop, or you may use a shop practice bike.
Suggested donation: $15 (free mini chain lube with donation) but nobody turned away for lack of funds
